Academic rowing

Academic rowing is a cyclical sport in which rowers sit in boats backwards and row with oars. The movement of the boat is corrected by special buoys that are stretched over the surface of the water channel. In this sport, athletes use about 95% of their muscles.

Academic vessels are swing and paired. In the swing, the athlete rows with one oar, and in the doubles – with two. Paired vessels are singles, twos and fours. And swing ships are twos, fours and eights. The size and weight of the boats are very different. For example, the length of a small loner is 8-9 meters, and its weight does not exceed 10-15 kg. And the biggest eight has a length of about 20 meters and a weight of 90-110 kg. The numbering of seats in the boat starts from the bow. The number one is always Zagreb. He has the most difficult and responsible task. A special place in rowing belongs to the helmsman, who not only guides the boat along the course, but also monitors rivals and informs partners about it.
